The “Pineapple Express” brought a refreshing rain to the Napa Valley beginning in early January. The vines were treated to a long-awaited and much needed drink to kick-off the growing season. The five-year drought conditions had ended and the growing season progressed on a more “normal” path. Our 2017 Metamorphosis will greet you with a vibrant deep ruby hue followed by a nose rich in black current with notes of red plum and cassis accented by hints of freshly dried herbs. The palate is an expression of the old Bordeaux-style balance between power and elegance, often referred to as the “iron fist in a velvet glove” metaphor with black cherries, cassis, black currents and a touch of anise framed by a rich mouthfeel and sweet tannins. The finish retains the bold character of the nose and palate with lingering flavors and warm texture. In keeping with the Jaffe Estate character, our 2017 Metamorphosis demonstrates a rare amalgam of Napa (specifically St. Helena) character at its core complementing a familiar Left Bank Bordelais style.
